The Samaipata Podcast: Episode 2!
We’re back with another episode of The Samaipata Podcast, where we sit down with top founders to unpack and pressure-test the strategies, decisions, and challenges behind building and scaling high-growth startups.
In this episode, we sit down with Pablo Fernández, co-founder of Clicars and Clidrive, President of Clikalia, and a serial entrepreneur who has built and scaled some of Spain’s success stories.
Pablo is no stranger to the Spanish tech ecosystem - after becoming Santander’s youngest ever VP at 29, he left behind a high-flying corporate career to build Clicars, which redefined car buying in Spain and was later acquired for over €100M. He then co-founded Clikalia, a real estate platform that has raised c. €200M in equity, and now leads Clidrive, his latest venture that aims at closing the gap in mobility financing with an affordable leasing model.
A strong advocate for financial discipline, Pablo challenges the idea that frugality and hypergrowth are mutually exclusive. We discuss how Clicars managed to raise only €5M while achieving a major exit, and why Clidrive has yet to raise external funding - a company that has been profitable from day one.
We also get into the role of boards in startups - what makes them useful (or not), and why surrounding yourself with the right advisors can be a game-changer. Finally, we explore his transition from entrepreneur to investor, backing over 100 startups and helping to shape the next generation of founders.
